Possible Anti-asthmatic Effect of Iraqi Ammi majus Seeds Extract Induced by Ovalbumin in Mice


 Asthma is a chronic and complex condition of the respiratory tract, that occurs in both children adults. Currently available medications have side effects; therefore, new therapies with fewer effects are needed. Thus, present study was designed to evaluate potential anti-asthmatic alcoholic extract Ammi majus on ovalbumin-induced asthma mice. Forty-eight female Albino mice were randomly assigned one six groups 8 animals each. Group I received distilled water as negative control, II ovalbumin positive Groups III IV orally at 64 128 mg/kg/day, respectively, sensitization, V VI without sensitization. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) obtained 24 h after 1st challenge measure number inflammatory cell counts. In addition, lung tissue removed for histopathological examination. Oral administration doses (64 mg/kg) significantly inhibited increases total differential counts eosinophile, neutrophile, monocyte, lymphocyte) BALF, improve histopathologic events These results demonstrated has potent activity improved asthma.
